SUMMARY

This Working Paper provides an historical and institutional overview of the Italian contracting system. After reviewing the ouput of the industry by the various sectors, the evolution of the legislation regarding the roles and responsibilities of the various actors is presented. Procurement procedures are then covered in some detail, before an analysis of the different procurement routes is made. The paper closes with indications of some likely directions for future development.
